“De-baptism”
Ugh. The Augusta Gazette is reporting that a new trend is hitting the Bible Belt: De-baptism. Folks are so disgusted with the church that they are publicly renouncing their faith in a ceremony designed to publicly disassociate themselves with any organized religion. Some interesting quotes from the article:
Overall churchgoers aren’t good spokespeople for their churches.
How many people know you go to church because of your love for others? More often they know what you hate. I think that’s why there are people openly denouncing their former membership in churches and participating in anti-rites. If our actions showed more than our mouths told, I don’t think this new movement would exist at all.
Now, more than ever, we need to practice what we preach and love like Jesus loves. How interesting that Christians are often marked by what they hate, not by what they love.

This is sad, but I understand that when people get hurt (by the church or by people), they can go to extremes. Let just keep loving!
Man! That’s crazy! Have you heard of the website called blasphemychallenge.com? It is based on Mark 3:29 “Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.”
So people video themselves saying “I deny the Holy Spirit. Some even talk about themselves and why they are doing it.” One girl said (I’m paraphrasing), I mean, I understand that people in other, third-world countries need something like that, it’s good for them, but we really don’t need to believe in God and religion.
A guy I know put it this way, “that’s like watching a kid who says, ‘LOOK I CANT COUNT TO 5! 1….2…..4….5!’ and saying to him “Oh how good for you, you CAN count to five. That’s fine for you, but we are all at a better knowledge level. But hey, good for you.”
Sorry kid says “I CAN count to 5″
