Headlines from a Church Newsletter

My first ministry position was at a small country church. I was just looking back through a stack of newsletters a friend sent me and reminiscing. Some of the headlines made me smile:

• Meet the Session
• Session Reorganizes for Greater Efficiency
• Session Reorganized
• Session Seeks Better Communication
• Session Members Leaving
• Meet the Deacons
• Deacons Reorganize…

Why is it that churches have such a tendency to become politicized? I’m praying that as we enter a new season at Mountainview with new elders, we will be able to keep Jesus first and not relegate Him to another task weighted less than reorganizing, politics and plays for power.

My prayer is that we will have a healthy elder team. I’m anxious to see what it looks like.
